More on Mom and Me

12 November 2007

Hi hi

How have you been? Thank you for praying for us. My mom is well. We saw the doctor two weeks ago. He ordered some tests for my mom. We will see him on 15 November and he’ll decide if my mom requires a pacemaker. Currently my mom is a private patient. I hope she can be downgraded to a subsidized patient as heart surgeries/treatment can be very costly. However, as a subsidized patient, she would not have a choice of doctors. It would make things easier if this doctor is still willing to treat my mom even if she’s a subsidized patient. Please pray for God to provide a good opportunity to speak with the doctor and also for the doctor to be compassionate.

I am doing fine – managing well with the children and home. I thank God for the strength and joy each day. I’m thankful for His reminders to see each day from His eternal perspective. It makes coping a lot easier. Although there are still the hair-tearing moments, I have learnt to keep the hair on my head (better cherish my new strands) and to let my hair down more (still telling my curls to do that, with little success). During one of my devotions, I learnt more about the significance of the stones on Aaron’s ephod.

Exodus 28:9-10,12

Take two onyx stones and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel in the order of their birth—six names on one stone and the remaining six on the other. …and fasten them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as memorial stones for the sons of Israel. Aaron is to bear the names on his shoulders as a memorial before the LORD.

Exodus 28:17, 21, 29-30

Then mount four rows of precious stones on it. … There are to be twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel, each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes. …Whenever Aaron enters the Holy Place, he will bear the names of the sons of Israel over his heart on the breastpiece of decision as a continuing memorial before the LORD. Also put the Urim and the Thummim in the breastpiece, so they may be over Aaron’s heart whenever he enters the presence of the LORD. Thus Aaron will always bear the means of making decisions for the Israelites over his heart before the LORD.

It is comforting to know that my Great High Priest, Jesus, carries all my burdens on His shoulders. Being set apart for Him would also mean going through a ‘heating’ process, just like how the precious gemstones are formed. Yes, the heat is on but there is no fear because I’m always close to Jesus’ heart and He will reveal the will of the Father to me. This wonderful assurance came because God knew I needed it.

I have not had my periods since January this year. This is one of the ‘side effects’ of chemotherapy. However I did have some staining now and then. My doctor advised me to go to my gynecologist for a check. Scans showed that the uterus and ovaries are well; my gynecologist also pointed out some eggs he saw in the ovaries. I am thankful that everything is well. As if the Lord knew I needed confirmation, a week after this check, I had my first menstrual flow since January. After so many months of disappointment, I was both jittery and joyful. After consultation with the doctors, they didn’t think there was anything abnormal. I was reminded of my prayers many months back. This is the answer: there is no menopause. Praise the Lord!!
